Saturday April 28th - lots of activity

Saturday was a hive of activity at SOSA. It started early with Scott Mcmaster and an aerobatic intro ride at 9:00am just to start the day and the excitement drew everyone else to the flight line. Nice weather although a brisk easterly made the use of the shorter Runway 10 a little more interesting this early in the season. Pat O’Donnell reminded me that the aiming point should, more properly, be a little further down the runway to avoid the fence and traffic on Cooper Road. Many members came out for the first time this year and check rides were the main morning activity using some scattered thermal activity.

At least two new members joined and quite a number of training flights were taken. I noted that by mid afternoon we had reached Flight 275, quite a high pace for the end of April.

Among the people I hadn’t seen in the air this year but at the field on Saturday were Scott Hube, Sorin Superceanu, Rafael Bravo Andy Gough, Steve Benedek, Mike Sury, Angelo Savoia and Sam (who turned up in the Acura sports car), Graham Smith and Don Plewes all ably checked with the assistance of our Chief Flying Instructor Lorna Novosel.

Elsewhere on the field the rigging of the new SZD Junior and the new Blanik L23 was accomplished under the guidance of Dave Springford and assisted by Tom Coulson and a hive of interested members. Eddy Hollestelle came by and inspected the new L23 as well as Oscar Hotel, the LS4. Meanwhile Wilfreid Kreuger rigged his craft but despite having his own power Wildfreid didnt venture above 856 ft MSL.

Meanwhile and not to be forgotten, Peter Maszeros donned his nuclear protection gear and quietly went about completing more of the last coat painting of the clubhouse washrooms while most others enjoyed the day. Thanks Peter

Later in the afternoon Steve Newfield flew his new craft U2, an LS6 whilst your blog correspondent Paul Fish at last climbed into his new machine the Discus 1W and was competently briefed by Mr. Brennan (thanks). Wow what a wonderful experience. Thanks for the great support from members. Its what makes SOSA a great place. A beer list is on me but Springford wont let me pin it to the kitchen door no more. The fridge will have to do.
